Care for your Hardwood Floors!

By January 17, 2019August 1st, 2019No Comments

Hardwood floors are a beautiful way to elevate the aesthetic of your home, but the cost at which they come doesn’t end at installation.

With improper care, scuffs and scratches will ruin the wood, and insufficient attention to constant cleanliness will cause the floors to dull, diminishing the impact they have on the design of your home.

We at Master Clean have seen our fair share of ruined floors, and it breaks our heart every time. We are dedicated to helping our readers live better lives by fostering a lifestyle of cleanliness, so here are some excellent tips to help you preserve your hardwood floor.

Diligent Care

The #1 tip we give for anything we clean is: Diligent care

This is especially true of hardwood floors.

The longer you put off cleaning your floors, the more work you are creating for yourself down the line, and the more money you’ll have to spend on restoring the look of your floors.

-If you notice dust, hair, and crumbs beginning to collect in the corners of the room, do something about it.

-Sweep up the bigger bits and use a microfiber dust mop to collect the smaller dust and particles that won’t quite make it onto the dustpan.

-Make a habit of using a light misting of hardwood floor cleaner with a dry mop every week.

Don’t be tempted to use water, and if you must, then certainly don’t use very much of it! Excessive water will try to sit between the panels, and over time your floor will warp and become uneven.

Protect Your Floor

Invest in things which protect your floor.

-Make sure there are matts at exterior doors to keep dirt and mud from tracking in (or, if you’re comfortable going even further, don’t wear shoes inside!).

-Put pads on the legs of your chairs and tables to keep them from scratching the floor.

-Consider a small area rug for underneath the coffee table.

These things will go a long way to preserving the wellbeing of your hardwood floor! A hardwood floor, as with any investment into your home, comes with responsibility.

Be diligent about it’s care and you’ll be so happy you did!
