Clean and sanitize your wooden cutting boards with lemon and salt!

For the longest of time I was told that wooden cutting boards were dangerous to use because they would harbor bacteria below the surface.

It would seem there has been evidence to the contrary for some time.

Still, for peace of mind, try this trick of the trade:

  • •Sprinkle your board with coarse salt, cut a lemon in half and use the cut side to rub the salt into the board.
  • •Let this sit for 10-15 minutes and then rinse with water.

Not only does it clean and sanitize, but it also will take off many stains.

Additionally, I have seen chefs leave their butcher blocks covered in salt over night to pull out any grease from the boards and help clean.  I tried this recently and it worked like a charm!
